I decided to visit a friend in Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago.
I was telling my parents about the trip and I noticed a glint in dad’s eyes, so I asked if they would like to join me. The answer came without any hesitation, a very firm “Yes”.
Mum and dad have visited and lived in Asia and Africa, but despite living in the UK for 65 years, neither of them have really travelled around Europe. So, this was the perfect opportunity.
And what an ace few days we had.
Far too many highlights to mention, but here are a few:
-
A wonderful canal cruise around Amsterdam learning lots about its history.
-
People watching in the sunshine and absorbing the beautiful atmosphere.
-
Mum’s first trip on a bus in nearly 50 years!
-
Lots of lovely conversations with the locals.
It was honestly an amazing trip and I’m chuffed to bits to have shared the experience with them. We of course spent loads of time chatting and laughing.
I heard so many stories.
I learnt so much about their younger days, and lots about the family too. I’m looking forward to sharing the stories with my brothers, but most of all I can’t wait for the next adventure with mum and dad!
