I am so unbelievably chuffed and excited to be through to the voting round for two awards in The Freshies 2025 Awards.
The first is such a new (and brave) activity for me….Networking!
In all my decades of being employed there’s always been a sales/business development team to bring in new business, or we won our work through tender writing and pitching, which I’m much more comfortable doing!

In my last business, my partner did all the networking, leaving me to beaver away in the office producing marketing strategies, developing campaigns, writing content, project managing and organising events.
So, when I launched Meena McDonald Marketing it took me a long time to take the brave step and network, and I have to admit it was pretty daunting initially.
However, I realised quickly that the more I turned up as me, no airs, no graces, just honest, interested and curious about the people around me, the easier it became.
I now find myself being invited to all sorts of weird and wonderful events, making some amazing connections and growing my business. I can honestly say… I genuinely enjoy it!
I never thought I would hear myself say those words!
The second category I’m nominated for is Marketing Magnifico, which I’m so delighted about as I’ve worked in the marketing industry since I qualified at university many decades ago! I realise when I speak to people (at networking events!) how they truly value my experience.

Having worked with so many business sectors including publishing, print, education, technology, hospitality and health, to name a few, I can turn my marketing hand to pretty much anything. To be recognised for this is just fabulous.
