There is so much noise out there and people are bored of being bombarded by uninteresting marketing content. Even if your business is brilliant, it can be challenging to stand out. But, there are ways to get noticed.
You create a bit of sizzle and some substance!
The “sizzle” is what grabs their attention…… remember you have only 3 seconds to do this before they move onto the next thing. Then, when you’ve got their attention you need to give them some substance, something that sparks their curiosity to want to know more.
Stories are perfect for this and they don’t need to be “polished”. They just need to sound like a real human being who is passionate about what they’re talking about.
Your story doesn’t have to be a written piece either, it can be an advert, a podcast, a video, a picture…. after all, a picture speaks a thousand words.
My earrings were the sizzle at a festival I was recently at.
Someone stopped me and said “I love your earrings…. but please don’t be offended….” I was intrigued! Apparently my earrings reminded them of some daft comedian on YouTube, who creates all sorts of crazy jewellery using weird and wonderful material, and my earrings reminded them of him!
I told them I wasn’t offended in the slightest and was in fact quite flattered! We went on to have a fabulous conversation and I’ve now been asked to look at their website content! So….be yourself and don’t take yourself so seriously!
A marketing report has just been published called “The Cure for Dull” (by System1 Group) and do you know what the biggest antidote is for the endless dull messages from businesses…….
Storytelling!
It is the most successful antidote to “dull” across all marketing content. The research estimates an annual spend of $198 billion on “dull” media, where people feel nothing and don’t respond. Just imagine how many pairs of earrings I could buy with that kind of money!
Would you like me to create some sizzle and substance for you and stop the scroll?
